Heather is an entrepreneur turned civil servant. She currently works for the Province of Ontario as a Senior Advisor in Advanced Technologies for the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth/Ministry of Research Innovation and Science. Specifically, she focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Technologies.
Prior to joining the public sector, Heather cofounded a deep learning automatic speech recognition company, Spreza (now open sourced) and a 3D printing technology company, Mosaic Manufacturing (still in operation, see more at mosaicmanufacturing.com). She holds a business degree from Queen’s Commerce, co-hosts #AskAI a podcast about the Canadian AI industry and is an alumnus of Canada’s top entrepreneurial program for recent graduates, the Next36.
Beyond startups, technology and government Heather spends a lot of time considering the ‘Future of Work’. The St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland has recognized her as one of the Leaders of Tomorrow in this field, and last year she led the Canadian delegation to the G7 Youth Summit in Rome leading negotiations focused on digitalization and innovation supportive policy. In August, she will be moving to Beijing as a Schwarzman Scholar to broaden her understanding of the world, and advances in AI. Heather is passionate about discussing and discovering the best ways to prepare for the rapidly changing future, and to raise awareness and understanding of technological advances.
